The drive out follows the road through Gazalkent before climbing into the Chatkal foothills. Charvak Lake, Uzbekistan's largest reservoir, comes into view first — a striking stretch of turquoise water against the mountains, worth a stop for photos or a walk along the shore. From there it's a short drive further into the mountains to Chimgan, known for its chairlift and hiking trails with sweeping views over the Tian Shan range, and to Amirsoy, Uzbekistan's newest mountain resort with a modern gondola cable car running year-round.
