Shahrisabz — the birthplace of Amir Timur (Tamerlane) and a UNESCO World Heritage city — sits about 90 km south of Samarkand, across the scenic Takhtakaracha mountain pass. This is a private car and driver for the round trip, not a guided tour: you explore Ak-Saray Palace, the Dorut Saodat and Dorut Tilovat complexes, and Kok-Gumbaz Mosque at your own pace, with your driver waiting to bring you back to Samarkand. The drive itself is part of the experience — the road climbs over the Takhtakaracha pass with views across the Zarafshan mountains before dropping into the Kashkadarya valley. All of Shahrisabz's main sites sit within walking distance of each other in the historic center, so once you arrive there's no need for a car until you're ready to head back.
