We spent a day in Tashkent with Zilola, and from the very beginning she was warm, kind and genuinely interested in making the day enjoyable for us. She was wonderfully flexible and adapted the programme to our interests and wishes rather than simply following a fixed itinerary. What we enjoyed most was how easy it was to talk with her. Zilola is very open and conversational, and our discussions went far beyond the usual history and tourist information. We talked about Uzbekistan and everyday life, but also about social issues and the challenges and changes of the 21st century. It was a pleasure to exchange ideas with someone from her generation and to hear her perspective. She was also very attentive to what we wanted to see and how we wanted to spend our time. We always felt that the day was our day, not just a standard tour. Thank you, Zilola, for your warmth, kindness and wonderful conversations. You helped us see Tashkent not only through its monuments and history, but also through the eyes of a young Uzbek woman.
